God's Will to Heal
GOD’S WILL TO HEAL
I remember as a young Christian I had doubts to whether it was God’s will to heal today. Many Christians and non-Christians alike fill the church with doubt and unbelief in this matter. Some say the days of miracles are gone. Others say God gave us doctors so we don’t need to have God heal us today. Still others point out that God that uses sickness to teach us lessons. “Thorns in the flesh” and such. But this morning I want to take away all doubt in the matter of it being God’s will to heal us.
A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured. Mark1:40-42
He said, “If you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, who heals you.” Exodus 15:26
Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases. Psalms103:3
If You Are Willing
1. The Question
A. This is a question that a lot of us seem to ask the Lord.
B. Doubt concerning God’s will in this matter seem to be common. We know God can, but you just don’t know His will in the matter.
C. But actually what you are saying is, Lord I know you can help me, but for some reason you won’t. This is not the right attitude towards God.
2. Do You Doubt God’s Will to Heal You?
A. You may have seen other healed, and believe in healing, but for some reason you can’t believe for your own healing.
B. Some are waiting for some special personal revelation from God so they will know it is God’s will.
C. Others confess that they believe they’re sickness came from God to teach them some spiritual lesson, but are constantly taking medicine and seeking out doctors to cure them. If they really believed that God was the cause, then why are they trying to get out of His will by seeking healing through doctors? Its fine to see doctors, but don’t go around saying “God made me sick.”
What Is God’s Will?
1. Let’s Ask Jesus. OK?
A. Jesus says to the leper, “I will.” You know if we are honest with the scriptures, the Bible teaches that by Jesus Christ we can be healed physically if we would only meet the conditions.
B. A careful study of the scriptures will reveal God’s will on the subject.
C. We can go to the Bible and find out the Will of God. We don’t need any special revelation, because God has already given us His Word.
And Jesus went about all Galilee , teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kind of sickness and all kind of disease among the people. Matthew4:23
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the Kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. Matthew9:35
So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere. Luke9:6
2. Jesus is Our Example of the Father’s Will.
Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” Jesus said unto him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, “show us the Father?” John14:8-9
A. Here we see that what Jesus did is what the Father would do.
Then I said, “Behold, I have come in the volume of this book it is written of me To do your will, O God.” Hebrews10:7
B. No where in the Bible do we see Jesus refusing to heal.
C. He never said to anyone that their sickness was from God or that God was disciplining them. “No where!” Jesus has and always will say, “I WILL!”
Healing Is Promised
1. Both in the New Testament and in the Old Testament God Promises Healing.
A. God heals and strengthens over 3 million Israelites.
God says, “For I am the Lord that heals you.” Exodus15:26
After all the Jews partook of the “Passover Lamb” the next day the Bible says, “There were none feeble among their tribes.” Psalm105:37
B. Not one single person was sick or weak among 3 million people. Today you couldn’t get 10 people together without someone being sick.
C. But here we see God giving one of His redemptive names, “I am the God that heals you.”
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah53:5
D. Here we have a prophecy of know Jesus would not only carry our sins but also our sicknesses. Healing is in the Atonement work of Christ.
2. Healing is Promised in the New Testament.
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.
A. Jesus provided for our physical healing on the cross. It’s in the Atonement.
B. Just as the Israelites ate the Passover meat of the lamb and received strength and health, so do we when we partake of Jesus Christ by Faith.
The Source of Sickness and Disease
1. We Live in a Fallen World
A. We know that before sin entered the earth there was no sickness.
B. Sickness is something the devil brought with sin when he led man to sin against God.
C. We must get it into our heads that sickness is of the Devil and not God.
2. Jesus Dealt With Sickness the Same Way He Dealt With the Devil.
But Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be quiet, and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him in their midst, it came out of him and did not hurt him. Luke4:35
So he stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them. Luke4:39
A. Here we have an example of Jesus rebuking the devil, and rebuking sickness.
B. We know from scripture that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil.
3. Personal Sin Sometimes is the Cause
A. A lot of sickness is caused by personal sin, although his is not the case most of the time. But sometimes when we repent of certain sins, God heals us.
Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. James5:16
Healing and Salvation Are Parallel
If you are saved, you can be healed. It takes the same amount of faith and nothing more. You can be healed immediately, just like you received forgiveness. Jesus has already died on the cross and has risen from the dead. Its past, so Jesus has already provided for you.
Are You Deceived?
ARE YOU DECIVED?
And with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion that they should believe the lie that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2Thessalonians 2:10-12
Two Gun Crowley
On May 7th 1931 a sensational manhunt in New York came to a climax. After weeks of searching for a killer named “Two Gun Crowley” the police had him pinned down in his lover’s apartment. 150 policemen surrounded the building. “Two Gun Crowley” had a reputation of being a cop killer. For over an hour shots could be heard going back and forth. After he was captured, the police chief said, “Two Gun Crowley was most dangerous criminal New York City has ever known. This man will kill for any reason.” But what did “Two Gun Crowley” think of himself?
We know because while he was held up in his lover’s apartment he wrote a note for everyone to see just in case he didn’t live. He addressed it, “To whom it may concern.” He said, “Under my coat is a weary heart, but it’s a kind and generous one, a heart that would do nobody any real harm.” “Two Gun Crowley” was sentenced to death by electrocution. When he got to the chair he didn’t say I’m sorry or this is what I deserve for killing people. Instead he said, “This is what I get for defending myself.” “Two Gun Crowley” is not alone today. Most criminals justify themselves by saying, they really didn’t do anything wrong, or that it was because they are poor or were abused.
Self Deception
1. Deceived
Is it possible to deceive ourselves like “Two Gun Crowley” was deceived?
2. Human Nature
One well-known psychologist said,”99 times out of a hundred people never admit to being wrong it may be.” They always find justification for their action.
Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” And the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.
Genesis3:12-13
Adam blamed Eve. Eve blamed the snake. God blamed them all.
3. Making Excuse Hinders God’s Forgiveness
I wonder if Adam had taken responsibility for his sin and repented right there and asked for God’s mercy if the whole story would be different now? (Example) When going through the “Ten Commandments with people it is often very difficult to get people to admit that they are a liar.
4. The Gospel Goes Against Our Pride
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. if we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. " 1John 1:8-10
God says confess and repent because I have paid the price for your freedom. But we want to make excuses for our sin.
How to Stay Deceived
1. Avoiding the Truth
A lot of people prefer to stay deceived. They don’t want to face the truth. They prefer to live in a world that makes them feel comfortable.
If you stay deceived you can never be healed, saved or delivered. The only way not to be deceived is to have a love for the truth no matter how much it hurts.
2. We Choose Friends We Are Comfortable With
For example, we choose friends that have the same weaknesses and faults that we have. Have you ever been around someone that you know to be more excellent than you are? We go to places we will feel accepted. Nobody challenges you because they are just like you.
3. Rejection the Truth
It’s much easier to be deceived sometimes than it is to face the truth. We all want to avoid pain, but if we want truth sometimes it’s going to be painful.
4. Some Like To Be Deceived
Think of “Two Gun Crowley” there are many just like him that live in a moral fantasy land.
How the Truth Will Set You Free
"Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, if you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. " John 8:31-32
1. See Yourself In Truth
If you want to see yourself in truth you need the right mirror and you need people around you that their excellence shows up your flaws. Have you ever been around someone that is uglier than you are? Don’t you feel more handsome or beautiful? But how do you feel when you are around someone that is more beautiful or handsome than you are? You go to the bathroom and look in the mirror and you think what’s wrong with you.
2. God’s Mirror
God’s word is a mirror of reality we are to use. This mirror compares us to God’s standard and not our own perverted standards.
" For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. "
James1:23-25
3. God’s Mirror Reveals Where To Wash
It’s when we known the truth that we will go to God for help. Like when you realize you are sick you will see a doctor. Or when you look in the mirror and see a big booger hanging out that you will get some tissue.
4. Truth Sets You Free From The Devil’s Lies
When you know the truth from God’s word or from the preaching of God’s word it is your opportunity to be set free from a lie that has been controlling your life. The only way to be set free from a lie is to believe the truth. Jesus is the truth.
"Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John14:6
5. Truth Bring You To Jesus
Real truth is always based on the word of God. As long as you believe lies from hell you will have hell in your life.
Knowing means believing! In other words it is not good enough to have the truth or hear the truth but you need to believe the truth but you need to believe the truth and act on it so that you can experience freedom.
Crowley
